DOE Analytical Services Program (ASP)
Welcome to the Department of Energy's Analytical Services Program (ASP) web site.
The ASP is a corporate Departmental program, crossing all
Departmental program line organizations and assuring DOE managers,
workers and the public that the data results acquired from
analytical environmental laboratories are valid, reliable
and defensible, and that treatment and disposal of DOE low-level
radioactive and mixed waste is accomplished in accordance
with all applicable regulations and in a manner protective
of human health and the environment.
The ASP has three component elements: the Department of Energy's Consolidated Audit Program (DOECAP), the Mixed Analyte Performance Evaluation Program (MAPEP), and the development of software toolkits to support field environmental sampling and enhance environmental decision-making, and accompanying field training of the software packages. The ownership of the ASP resides within the Department's Office of Health, Safety and Security, Office of Corporate Safety Analysis, Office of Corporate Safety Programs. This web site is designed to share information on the purpose, process, and results of the ASP.
Ever wonder how the DOECAP has reduced the number of annual
audits of commercial analytical environmental laboratories,
and waste treatment, storage and disposal facilities by over
half the number at a cost savings to the taxpayer of over
$1.3 million? The MAPEP has over one hundred participating
environmental laboratories, and a dozen international laboratories
involved in quality assurance proficiency testing and evaluation
to assure the quality of analytical data reported to the Department's
field sites. Software is being developed to better plan and
design environmental field sampling and improve upon environmental
decision-making. Training is scheduled at various Department
field sites to roll out the new software toolkits.
